Illustrating a picture book: A chronology

This is a chronology of my experience illustrating an up-and-coming picture book. I hope this will help answer some questions I get about illustrating for children. Be sure to check back occasionally, as I will update my chronology as I progress through the book SURE AS SUNRISE. This chronology is unedited, as is my whole site. But keep in mind, I'm an artist, not an editor.

I've been working full-time as a visual journalist for newspapers for about 5 years now. My path to visual journalism was roundabout and with great reluctance. Journalism wasn't included in my life's mission statement. Although I spent my days in a newsroom creating informational graphics, I rejected the idea that I was a journalist or a reporter of some kind. I am an artist and I like this title. But here I find myself keeping a journal of my experience of illustrating my next book. Hopefully this experience will provide good information and visuals to those interested in illustrating children's books. Hmmm, guess I'm a journalist, too.
